Let me say this first: WATCH THE OPRAH WINFREY SHOW TODAY/TONIGHT IF YOU CAN!
Chances are that if you're on our site, you've got a pretty good sense of the difference between humanely-raised animals from sustainable farms and, well, that stuff you find in the supermarket. But I think we can all agree that the overwhelmingly vast majority of Americans either don't know the difference, or realize there's a difference and they consciously choose not to pay attention.
In just the past few days, however, you couldn't hide from stories about sustainable agriculture from some of the most read and most watched media sources in America. Let's start with The Oprah Winfrey Show, because if you're reading this now as I've posted it, you can still catch or record a re-run of the show tonight at 1 a.m. (Or check your local listings if you're not in the DC or NY metro areas).
On Oprah today it's a look at California's Proposition 2, a look at where your eggs come from, as well as how pigs are raised. You're not gonna want to miss this show if humanely-raised animals is something important to you. (And hopefully Oprah's millions of viewers will get a better understanding of what companies like EcoFriendly and all of our customers are trying to do by supporting small, sustainable, family farms!) Some of the video will drive you crazy. See it if you can!
And if Oprah's audience isn't big enough, what about the New York Times? Michael Pollan, author of The Omnivore's Dilemma (which featured EcoFriendly Foods) and In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto had a major article in the Sunday Times magazine section which it dubbed "The Food Issue."
Lastly, don't miss out on seeing this week's Mutts comic strip. Mutts is taking a stand supporting Proposition 2 with a series of strips pointing out the plight of factory farmed animals. See some of them on the California Humane website.
And please don't forget to vote with your fork! When you make the choice to buy your meats from EcoFriendly, you're taking a stand in favor of animals living a life of comfort and not sorrow. We will always tell you how we raise our animals and in coming weeks and months on this site, we'll take you to the farms and show you ourselves.
