Here's what you'll find at Arlington and Dupont Circle farmers markets this weekend...
The big news is that poultry season has started and continues to gain momentum. We had our 3rd harvest of the season this past week so you’ll find a good selection of poultry products… whole birds and cut-ups. When I say that we’re gaining momentum, the early spring season, with cold temps and heavy rains, is a challenge for our producers. Elizabeth at Davis Creek Farm has done an outstanding job this year, bringing us what are undoubtedly the best early spring chickens we’ve ever seen. They are big, plump birds that have an incredible flavor. Every week I hear from our customers about how good these birds are. Thanks Elizabeth, you score a 10 out of 10! Nicely done!
And while we’re talking poultry, some of you may have been around a couple of weeks ago when we were promoting a special Poultry Grand opening event at the Dupont Circle Fresh Farm Market. Sorry to say but we had such a limited number of birds that week (see above re: how difficult it can be in the early season to bring birds to market!) that we had to postpone the event. We’re scoping out a new date and will be promoting it once we know. It’ll be a great day at the market so when you see the announcement for a new date, mark your calendar and come enjoy the specials. We’ll be doing samples of our fresh poultry using different recipes and techniques. Recipes will be available AND we hope to again offer our southern fried chicken picnic basket for you to take to the park and enjoy. Danette Segroves of Dinner Matters in Arlington will be working with us on the picnic baskets. Danette is a personal chef and caterer that we work closely with, promoting our meat products and providing delicious meals and catered events to individuals and companies in the DC Metro area.
In the beef department, we’ll have some fresh sirloin steaks, ground beef and a good selection of frozen, high end steaks such as ribeyes, NY strips, etc. These are 60-day, dry-aged steaks, excellent for your grilling pleasure this weekend.
In the fresh pork department, we’ll have several fresh tenderloins and a limited selection of freshly cut chops as well. On the sausage front we’ll have a selection of our delicious breakfast, hot & mild Italian and chorizo for the weekend. We’ll be offering up a special deal on sausages this weekend… Buy 2 packs of the LARGE LINK breakfast sausages and GET A THIRD PACK FREE! So stock up and put a couple of packs in the freezer for another day while THE PRICE IS RIGHT! And keep in mind that these sausages are hand made by us, right here at our plant in Moneta, VA. They are made from our own clean, pasture-raised pork hams and shoulders and contain no preservatives, fillers or mystery meats (you know what I mean). And don’t forget to try our country cured ham if you haven’t already.
And yes, it’s Memorial Day weekend so we’re offering a couple of great specials to help you kick-off your 2009 BBQ season! First of all, how about hot dogs for the gang… regularly priced at $7.00 for a package of 8 franks, this weekend we’re dropping the price to $5.00. That’s less than $.65 per serving! These are made from a blend of our 100% grass-fed/grass-finished beef chuck and our pasture-raised pork hams, no mystery meats (again, you know what I mean), no dyes, no fillers, no preservatives. How can you go wrong with such a low price for such a good wholesome food product? Next, are the spare ribs… whole slabs of spare ribs will be offered at 30% off the sticker price. These are big meaty slabs that will feed a couple of hardy eaters or 3-4 daintier palates. Either way they are delicious. Come by the stand and we can talk rib cookery. You’ll be surprised at how easy it is to prepare, tender, falling-off-the-bone ribs, with or without a grill or smoker.
We look forward to a great spring/summer season and your continued patronage. Bon Appetit!
